Brits facing 'pre payday blues'...

A growing number of Britons make cut backs in the week before payday, according to new research from Abbey.

Some two in three consumers find themselves short of cash as they wait for their monthly salary.

Research from the bank found that 64 per cent of adults make sacrifices in the run-up to payday, with the average consumer now facing five days a month without enough money.

Steve Shore, director of banking at Abbey, comments: "A staggeringly high number of people regularly fail to budget effectively each month and end up running out of cash before their next pay cheque.

"With disposable income down and Christmas almost upon us, planning your finances carefully has never been more important."

The research also revealed that disposable income is currently 29 per cent less than in 2006, with Abbey suggesting that even more Brits will face pre-payday debt over the upcoming Christmas period.
