Creditors "accommodating" to debt repayment problems...

Financial institutions are generally "accommodating" when they are informed of people being unable to meet repayments, a debt charity spokesperson has said.

James Ketchell, at the Consumer Credit Counselling Service, noted that when people are struggling to meet their repayments they could be eligible for a debt management programme.

Under these circumstances the charity would write to inform creditors on their behalf.

"Generally most creditors, when they realise someone is in a situation where they cannot meet their repayments, are quite accommodating," Mr Ketchell commented.

Meanwhile, money education charity Credit Action recently outlined the loan options available to those with poor credit ratings.

Chris Tapp, the group's associate director, recommended doorstep lending, credit unions and social funds.

But he strongly advised against using loan sharks, which he said are a "big problem" in this country, maintaining that "people should never borrow from a loan shark."
