Equity loans for overseas homes...

Brits considering taking out an equity loan may be among those who are increasingly interested in Turkey's housing market, it has been claimed.

According to Primelocation.com, Turkey is now one of the most asked about countries and this can be attributed to the fact that legislative changes in 2005 have made it easier for overseas buyers to purchase up to 25,000 square metres of real estate.

Moreover, from January 2008, purchasers of Turkish property have been allowed to take out a mortgage of up to 30 years. Prior to this, buyers were only eligible for a short-term mortgage.

Ann Wright, the international business development manager at Primelocation.com, said Turkey climbed into the top ten most searched countries on its website in April 2007 and its popularity continued to rise.

"In May of this year, it ranked eighth amongst countries searched," she added.

Equity loans allow budding property investors to release some of the money tied up in their homes to help finance investments in overseas or second homes.

According to the Association of British Travel Agents, Turkey is the fourth most popular package holiday destination for 2008, behind Spain, France and Greece.
