Finances are Brits 'biggest' concern...

Financial concerns have become the single most pressing issue in the public conscience, according to research by Axa.

Decisions concerning loans, mortgages and household bills are top of the problems list for 53 per cent of Britons, up by 21 per cent over the last year.

Meanwhile, concern over terrorism has significantly decreased over the same period, dropping by 20 per cent during the last 12 months.

However, only a quarter of Britons have sought financial advice during that period, despite financial concerns.

Axa's Steve Folkard said: "Money worries have spread like a fever across the nation, with people increasingly concerned with their ability to meet financial commitments.

"While people are concerned about job security and ability to pay their mortgage, wider global concerns about terrorism and global warming take a back seat."

Scotland had the highest number of people concerned about finances above anything else at 60 per cent, while those living in the south of England had the lowest, at 49 per cent.
