HSBC releases student finances research...

Many students are facing tough financial credit conditions, with bad credit loans one of the possibilities they could take in order to make ends meet.

According to HSBC, which released analysis on students' financial situations today, three-quarters of the group are working part time in order to cover their costs.

The research follows the release of figures from the department for employment and learning, which found that four out of every five pounds of students' income comes from these jobs.

However, HSBC also said that students were facing an uncertain part-time jobs market at the moment, with many firms cutting down on staff due to the credit crunch.

This is offset by evidence showing that many Polish and other EU workers are moving back to their native countries from the UK, leaving vacancies behind.

Lucy Payne, youth and student manager at HSBC, commented: "The unemployment rate amongst students hasn't risen much to date and, in fact, there is a lot of anecdotal evidence of migrants from Eastern Europe now opting to return home, which could make things a little easier for students seeking work.

"However, students need to be prepared for the possibility of not being able to find a part-time job as easily as they'd hoped. Budgeting is absolutely critical if you want to keep control of your spending and for students who want that financial freedom during their time at university, this is a very important skill to learn."
